Garlic Cheesy Bread


Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb (230g) store-bought or homemade pizza dough

  • 2 Tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 minced garlic cloves

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning blend or dried basil

  • 1 and 3/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese*

  • optional: sprinkle of cornmeal for dusting the pan

  • optional: marinara or pizza sauce for dipping

Instructions:


Prepare pizza dough. Punch the risen dough down to release the air bubbles. Divide in half. (Make a pizza with the other half or freeze half of the dough for another time.

Preheat oven to 425°F

On a lightly floured work surface or on a piece of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat sprinkled with cornmeal roll the dough out into a 9×13 inch rectangle. The dough will want to be round, so do your best to shape it into a thin rectangle around this size– doesn’t have to be perfect.

Combine the butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning together in a small bowl. Brush over shaped dough. Cover evenly with shredded cheese.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. If desired, turn the oven to broil for the last minute to really brown the top.


Pizza dough:

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

  • 2 packets (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast

  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil , plus more for bowl and drizzling

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled), plus more for work surface

Instructions

  • Pour the water into a large bowl; sprinkle with yeast and let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes. Whisk in the sugar, oil, and salt. Add flour and stir until a sticky dough forms.

  • Lightly brush another large bowl with a little olive oil. Place dough inside and drizzle a little oil over the top. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm, draft-free place until dough has doubled in size, about 1 hour.

  • Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and gently knead 1 or 2 times, forming into a round. Let rest for about 10 more minutes.

  • Use or store as is for 1 large pizza, or divide into 4 equal portions for individual pizzas.
